Ensure your Windows is fully updated to the latest 22H2 or newer version, which handles BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) devices better. Supported Operating Systems UGREEN CM591 adapter is officially supported on: Windows 11 Windows 10 Windows 8.1
Some users may notice that even if their dongle is based on a newer Bluetooth chipset, Windows continues to report it as version 5.3. This is because the version number reported depends on the combination of hardware, firmware, and the driver. With the generic Windows driver, many dongles continue to report version 5.3. To get version 5.4 to display, you would need to install a specific driver from the chipset manufacturer (e.g., Barrot), which UGREEN may not always provide directly. Functionally, the performance will still be excellent, so this is usually just a cosmetic issue.
This is where the most significant challenges arise. The UGREEN Bluetooth 5.3 adapter, particularly the popular CM591 model, uses an Actions Semi ATS2851 chipset . For a long time, Linux distributions with older kernels (the core of the OS) did not have a built-in driver for this specific chip, rendering the adapter essentially useless. The situation has been improving. If you use a Linux distribution with a very recent kernel (version 6.0 or newer) , your system is much more likely to natively support the ATS2851 chipset. However, this is not guaranteed, and you may need to manually install a driver or update your kernel to get the adapter working. For many Linux users, the path of least resistance remains purchasing a dongle based on a more widely supported chipset like the Cambridge Silicon Radio (CSR) 8510.
