When the Epson L3200 prints, it cleans the printhead, consuming small amounts of ink that get deposited into a "waste ink pad" at the bottom of the machine. The printer keeps a digital count of this ink. When the pad is deemed full, the printer locks up to prevent ink from leaking.

Once this internal counter hits 100%, the printer triggers a hard lockdown. The power light and paper/ink lights will flash alternately, and the printer will refuse to print, copy, or scan.
